Before we left for Northern Italy we had our final review for our first project of the semester. As I mentioned in an earlier post, each group (2-3 people) was assigned a piazza in Rome with the task of observing and analyzing it. We were to put together a completely hand drawn and rendered composition of the piazza with plans, sections, elevations, perspectives, analysis, and a proposal of how to make the piazza "better." My group was assigned Piazza della Minerva also known as Piazza Santa Maria sopra Minerva. There were seven projects total and every group produced beautiful and thorough projects.
All-in-all, the first project of the semester seemed to be a real success; nobody had to pull an all-nighter, everyone seemed to be very happy with their work (both before the jury and afterward), and everyone learned a lot. The jury consisted of our two professors, Eric and Marina, along with two friends of Marina who have knowledge and experience in the field of architecture and are familiar with Rome.
